Citywide Grassroots Chorus

CWGC 1415

The Houston CityWide Grassroots Chorus – Founded in April 2013, the CityWide Grassroots Chorus was simply a vision of Brodrick Hill conceived out of the notion that history had not recognized the musical contribution of many of the talented African-American composers. For more history please click here for About the CityWide Grassroots Chorus  – A chorus developed from the grassroots of the Houston city wide African-American community whose mission is to celebrate African-American contributions to music by performing the great works of African-American composers. This chorus will be led by an African-American Chorus Director and will perform in the near future with the Houston Symphony led by an African-American conductor.

With a look at America’s unsung heroes and their musical influences, this group of vocalists will acknowledge these visionaries whose courage, perseverance, and passion, has left an indelible mark on classical, contemporary, and jazz music throughout the world. Its vision is to bring national and international distinction to the Houston CityWide Grassroots Chorus and the African-American community from which its music was birthed, by presenting the highest quality performances of great music composed by African Americans. Its value will be to build on the existing education system, relating to the contributions of African-American music and reaching current and future generations.
