Volunteer Through The Houston Symphony League
For more than 80 years, the Houston Symphony League has been a source of significant support for the Houston Symphony and for the cultural and educational enrichment of our city. Founded in 1937 with Miss Ima Hogg as the first President, the organization was formed with the purpose of promoting the sale of season tickets. Over the years the League has become even larger in numbers of volunteers and evolved in scope of contributions to the Houston Symphony.
The Symphony enjoys volunteerism from different groups that help to support the Symphony in various ways. You can volunteer for activities such as working the in-hall donation tables. For volunteer opportunities, please visit the Houston Symphony League website.
“
I became a member of the Houston Symphony League because I wanted to give back to Houston’s civic and cultural life. In volunteering, I have built lasting friendships with the extraordinary women who make this organization thrive and have witnessed first-hand the effects that the Houston Symphony has in our community, especially on children. I experienced an appreciation of great music at a young age, and the Houston Symphony has enhanced my love of music!

Volunteering Opportunities
The volunteer opportunities listed here are those that are directly for the Symphony and don’t include other volunteering associated with League committees. Contributions include fundraising, educational activities for the community, assisting with luncheons for the orchestra, ushering children’s school trip concerts at Jones Hall, assisting during Family Series concerts, and more.
Volunteers for the Houston Symphony attend both the Student Concerts, where they usher thousands of students for the largest education program, and the popular Family Concerts, where they assist families with crafts and the Instrument Petting Zoo.
League volunteers assist the Symphony by staffing tables at Jones Hall before and during concerts to process Annual Fund payments, greeting and ushering patrons during open rehearsals, and helping staff various events like Vintage Virtuoso or assisting with mailing preparations.
The League organizes appreciation events, including an annual Breakfast and Luncheon at Jones Hall, where volunteers supply and serve food, offering a unique opportunity to directly meet and socialize with the Symphony musicians and staff.
Volunteers actively support the Houston Symphony's community outreach by demonstrating orchestral instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo, preparing themed crafts for Family Concerts, and assisting staff at various community eventsthroughout the year, such as the Theater District Open House
