Installment 1:
Being selected as a semi-finalist in the internationally recognized Ima Hogg Competition is no small feat. Ten semi-finalists were selected from an applicant pool of 106 young musicians, ages 13-30, representing all of the orchestral instruments and piano, and hailing from 18 different countries. This competition is unique, as it is the most well-known multi-instrument competition in the world in conjunction with a symphony orchestra. Therefore, rather than the finals taking place with piano accompaniment, the four finalists will perform a complete concerto with the Houston Symphony to determine the winner, an opportunity that all ten of our semi-finalist musicians are striving towards. The Ima Hogg Competition has been known as an opportunity to jump-start careers and the community of Houston is privileged to have the opportunity to witness this showcase of such virtuosic musicianship from ten of the best young musicians world-wide.
We welcome one and all to support these musicians at the semi-final and final rounds of this prestigious competition, both of which will take place at Rice University’s Stude Hall. The semi-finals are free and open to the public on Thursday May 31st from 9 AM – 4 PM. Ticket information for the finals concert, on Saturday June 2nd at 7 PM, can be found HERE or by calling 713-224-7575.
Stay tuned for more installments with updates about all of the semi-finalists!
