Zemlinsky: Lyric Symphony; Berg: Three Pieces from the Lyric Suite (2009)
Hans Graf, conductor
Twyla Robinson, soprano
Roman Trekel, baritone
Former music director Hans Graf makes a powerful case for the neglected post-Romantic masterpiece Lyric Symphony by Alexander von Zemlinsky in this recording. The late-Romantic song cycle recalls both Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde and Schoenberg’s Gurre-Lieder, but remains much less often performed and recorded.
