Fast Facts: 2021–22 Pops Series Opener

Next month, Houston Symphony Principal POPS Conductor Steven Reineke is joined by Broadway vocalists Matt Doyle, Montego Glover, Katie Rose Clarke, and Jordan Donica to celebrate the music by eight-time Academy Award-winning and eleven-time Grammy Award-winning composer Alan Menken in the 2021–22 POPS Series opener, Once Upon a Time: Alan Menken’s Broadway on Sept. 3–5.

Local Voice

Showstopping vocalist Katie Rose Clarke was born and raised in the Houston Metropolitan area in Friendswood, TX and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. Houstonians will recognize her from TUTS’s production of Anything Goes. Clarke’s additional credits include Glinda on the first national tour of Wicked and Ellen in the Broadway revival of Miss Saigon. Her homecoming performance marks her Houston Symphony debut!


As Seen on TV

Broadway and TV star Jordan Donica currently stars as Jordan Chase in the third season of the CW’s Charmed, which the season finale recently aired! His on-screen and theater credits include Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera; Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the Los Angeles and San Francisco companies of Hamilton; Freddy Eynsford-Hill in the Tony-nominated Lincoln Center Theater revival of My Fair Lady; and guest starred in the award-winning CBS police drama Blue Bloods.


More Hamilton

Award-winning Broadway star Montego Glover most recently completed a thrilling run as Angelica Schuyler in the Chicago Company of Hamilton. Her credits include Celie and Nettie in the original Broadway production of The Color Purple; Felicia Farrell in the Broadway hit musical Memphis; Nina in The Royale at the Lincoln Center Theater; and starred as Fantine in the 2016 Broadway revival of Les Miserables.


Returning to Houston

Houston audiences will recognize Broadway vocalist Matt Doyle from his memorable debut performance with the Symphony in the 2017–18 POPS Season finale One-Hit Wonders. His Broadway credits include Elder Price in The Book of Mormon, Billy Narracott in War Horse, Hanschen in Spring Awakening, and Hugo Peabody in Bye Bye Birdie.
