Early Childhood

An extensive amount of research provides clear proof that music-making experiences in a child’s early years can lead to markedly accelerated brain development. Unfortunately, many underserved students in Houston do not have opportunities to study music, especially during their Pre-K through 2nd grade years.

In a typical year, the Houston Symphony partners with the Prelude Music Foundation to provide music education experiences to young students from two low-income schools in the Second Ward, one of Mayor’s Complete Communities: Angelita Fraga Pre-K and Ninfa Laurenzo Early Childhood Center.

In this program, 98% of the students are racial and ethnic minorities (95% Hispanic; 3% Black), and all 285 students are economically disadvantaged.

Making Music At Home

Whether you’re at the beginning of a musical journey or finding the path again after years away, the Houston Symphony is here as a resource to assist in your music-making pursuit.
