About Sergei Rachmaninoff

Born in Russia in 1873, Sergei Rachmaninoff was one of the last great composers of the Romantic era. A celebrated pianist, conductor, and composer, he became renowned for music of extraordinary emotional power and technical brilliance.

Following the Russian Revolution, Rachmaninoff left his homeland and eventually settled in the United States, where he continued performing and composing while building an international reputation as one of the greatest pianists of his generation. Today, works such as his Piano Concertos, Symphonic Dances, and Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini remain staples of the concert stage and enduring favorites among audiences worldwide.

More than 80 years after his death, Rachmaninoff's music continues to inspire listeners with its beauty, drama, and unmistakable voice.
