Hi, kids! Today we are going to share with you the story of Die Walküre (pronounced DEE val-CURE, but also known by the English title, The Valkyries), an opera by composer Richard Wagner.
THE CHALLENGE: Who is YOUR hero? Listen to the Budapest Symphony perform “Ride of the Valkyries” from Richard Wagner’s opera called The Valkyries, a story about greed, betrayal, forbidden love, and heroes’ triumph over all. Then, draw a picture of your hero doing what they do best! post the picture on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the hashtag #HoustonSymphonyDraws so the world can see.
We were planning to open the “Heroes and Adventures” concert, formerly scheduled on April 18 as part of the BBVA Family Concert Series, with Wagner’s music because of its heroic sounds made by the orchestra. Now we invite you to continue your own journey through music from our homes.
