HOUSTON (Sept. 27, 2017) – The Houston Symphony announced today the cancellation of the second program in the 2017-18 BBVA Compass POPS Series and a date change for the first concert of the 2017-18 Family Series due to ongoing repairs necessary to reopen the hall in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
Superhero Soundtrack was originally scheduled to take place October 6, 7 and 8 at Jones Hall with guest conductor Stuart Chafetz. Due to the impact of the storm on the Houston Symphony’s performance venue, the 2017-18 BBVA Compass POPS Series will now kick off on November 10-12 with Broadway Today. In addition to featuring Betsy Wolf, current star of the hit Broadway show Waitress, the concerts also feature Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan, best known for the roles of Jack Kelly in the musical Newsies and Toyman on the DC Comics-based superhero drama series Supergirl.
Hook’d: Pirates in Concert!, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 7 at Jones Hall, will now take place, Saturday, November 11, at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., at Jones Hall. The concerts will be led by Houston Symphony Associate Conductor Robert Franz. All programming details will remain the same.
The Theater District Parking Garage will be closed indefinitely due to ongoing repairs as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Patrons will be contacted prior to the performances with alternate parking options. Due to the flooding at Jones Hall, the Patron Services Center has been relocated to a temporary space, and in-person sales are not available at this time.
