Diversity Residency

The Diversity Residency Program was created as part of the Houston Symphony's commitment to be a meaningful force in the cultural lives of the various communities that comprise our great city. The program enables nationally-respected music professionals who have a relationship with our orchestra to share musical experiences with Houston's diverse musical artists, forging significant partnerships and opening dialogues which make possible the attainment of mutually important goals.

Our Diversity Resident for 2004-2005 is Damon Gupton, newly appointed American Conducting Fellow with the Houston Symphony. Mr. Gupton is a native of Detroit, Michigan and received his musical training from the University of Michigan. He studied conducting with David Zinman and Murry Sidlin at the Aspen Music Festival and with Leonard Slatkin at the National Conducting Institute in Washington, D.C. Conducting credits include the Cleveland Orchestra and the National Symphony. Mr. Gupton joins our previous Diversity Resident artsts, Charles Floyd, Carlos Miguel Prieto and Dr. Henry Panion, in leading our efforts to develop meaningful communication within the many facets of our community.
