A Lifelong Love of Music Begins With Us On Saturday Mornings.
Our 4-concert Family Series offers a mix of fun, thematic orchestral music to engage and entertain young audiences. Each 50-minute concert is held at Jones Hall on Saturday mornings with two start times: 10:00 am or 11:30 am. This season, Associate Conductor Robert Franz leads all four programs. Our fun-loving leader is always in character – and you should be too! 

Also, enjoy pre- and post-concert activities, including our Instrument Petting Zooyoung musician performances in the lobby as well as craft and musical activities

1 A MAGIC CARPET RIDE 
     WITH MUSIC FROM ALADDIN

Journey to a land of princes, princesses—and genies! This magic carpet ride features music from Aladdin, with favorites like “A Whole New World” and “A Friend Like Me.” Also on the program is Rimsky-Korsakov’s magical Scheherazade, as presented by storyteller Hope Shiver, with its dazzling, colorful orchestrations and the tale of One Thousand and One Nights. Our Silk Road adventure is sure to elicit curiosity and evoke intrigue of this exotic and mysterious part of the world.

2 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

The holidays are happening at the Houston Symphony with a very merry celebration of the classic “12 Days of Christmas” favorite! Join the orchestra, along with the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Chorale, to hear calling birds, French hens, turtle doves and, of course, a partridge in a pear tree, performed on stage in an interactive audience-participation program. Programs begin at 10:00 am and 11:30 am.

3 MARDI GRAS MENAGERIE!

It’s a jazzy, fun-filled celebration of Mardi Gras with a menagerie of friends from the animal kingdom! Joining the jubilee is Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals including elephants, kangaroos and feathery friends vividly brought to life by the orchestra and duo pianists. Associate Conductor Robert Franz is also taking us on an icy, dancing excursion with music from Happy Feet, featuring his party-pal penguin Mumble. Come dressed as your favorite animal and get ready to party symphony-style!

Join us for a Saturday morning with Sam I Am and the spectacular world of Dr. Seuss! Featuring Seuss’ highly imaginative characters with song and dance, our storybook celebration explores music from Green Eggs and Ham. We also pay tribute to the lively sounds of classic animation with a zany Looney Tunes medley and Rossini’s famous Overture to the Barber of Seville.
